Hi!

I have been trying to work with pictures on my recruiter concierge blog. I loaded some pictures and saved them as thumbnails and wasn't happy with them. Then tried to delete them and change them and itwon't delete to let me upload something different.

Thanks,
Suzanne

Help & Support from Blogs.mu members and staff

Hi Suzanne, can you give us the blog URL? Also can you tell me what images you had tried to upload and what images you are seeing so that we can check them out for you?

Hello, Sue!

It is RecruiterConcierge.blogs.mu.

I follow the steps and it gives me the page to upload new. When I do it is the same picture as when I started. It is happening in each box.

Once they are loaded as thumbnails I can't change them.

Thanks,
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne, I assume you are talking about the three images across the bottom of the page. Can I get you to try changing your theme to WPMU-nelo? This is the same theme as the blogs.mu default without the extra instructions. You will probably find this theme works fine for you.

Sue,

I think you and I figured something out.

I have seen in the forums the switch to Nelo suggestion. I was working in Nelo and couldn't get the pictures to actually delete.

Something in what you said gave me the idea to switch to a different theme and then come back to Nelo. I switched to Dixie and then back and it cleared the pictures out just fine.

Switching from one to the other seems to have acted like a a refresh.

Thanks for your help.

I am so tickled I am heading to the store to get some chocolate in your honor!

Suzanne

Excellent news Suzanne, that is another trick that sometimes works when a theme is giving you attitude.

But you are aware going to the shop to get chocolate that there are only specific flavors allowed -- Are you milk, white or dark chocolate lover?

Hi Sue

I'm also having trouble uploading images onto my new blog homepage.

http://seeddirect.blogs.mu/

The only image i've tried to upload looks really grainy. It's an image from my website and is perfect in situ, but as soon as I load it up onto the blog it looks just crummy.

Is this perhaps because i'm using the free version? I'm considering becoming a "supporter" but am concerned that if i upgrade to fix this issue, only to find it has not resolved.

Tks

It might be a sizing or graphic format conversion problem.
What is the size of the original image you are uploading?

If you go to the Settings -> Media page in your admin panel, you can change the default sizes that uploaded images are shrunk down to. Changing these may ensure that you image isn't resized as much.

Hi Ben, the images I'm seeing on your blog look good and perhaps Barry's tips helped.

But if not can you tell me is it a problem with inserting the images into:
1) the theme where you are using the blogs.mu default theme?
2) Or inserting images into posts?

If blogs.mu default theme then I would make sure all images are uploaded at the following sizes:
1. Replace your logo - (Blog Top Header Image) is 300 pixels wide by 100 pixels high
2. Blog Intro Header Image - left hand side image is 350 pixels wide by 250 pixels high
3. Images along the bottom of Nelo - 290 pixels wide by 150 pixels high

If it is an issue with images in blog posts then I would read these posts:
1. Image and blog post width - look at the section that shows what happens when you stretch a smaller image to a larger size
2. Uploading Photos From Digital Cameras Into Blog Posts

Hi Barry & Sue

Great stuff - with your advice, all sorted :-)

Thanks again

Ben

Hi Sue

Sorry to be pathetic, but how on earth do you post a new thread? I've spent 20 minutes looking for it!

The new thread that I want to start, is a similarly frustrating question...How do my users create their own blogs? Neithet can I see where new users are able to register?

http://www.seeddirect.blogs.mu

all the best

Ben

Hi Ben, Not pathetic and I totally understand. Don't tell the others but I don't find it that obvious either (has caught me out a few times).

On the left hand side of the main page of the forum you will see a list of active forums such as "How do I do that then" or "Troubleshooting".

What you need to do is click of the forum topic that most fits the question you want to ask. That will take you to that forum and then at the top of that forum is a link that says "Add new". Click that link to add your new forum thread.

Allowing new users to create their own blogs is covered on here in the Site Admin manual. Look under Allow new registrations.

What you need to do is go to Site Admin > options and select 'Enabled. Blogs and user accounts can be created'. Then go to Appearance > Widgets and add the "Create a blog button" to your sidebar. If you have any trouble adding the button widget to your sidebar let me know and I will help you.

Sue
