Hi Ben
Yep, it looks like some browsers will follow a redirect for an image when it's displayed in it's own, but not within a page. Most strange and confusing.

I've got the list of your sites blogs ready, so I'll be going through them and updating today - shouldn't take too long and you shouldn't notice any issues.

Rgds

Hi Barry - Thanks - really appreciate it :-)

I did notice that in FF the images are visible in the blogs, but not in IE8.

They all were visible in IE8 prior to the change in domain name from SeedDirect.blogs.mu to vegblogs.co.uk

Here is the URL of a typical image that does not work in IE, but does in FF

http://seeddirect.blogs.mu/fishmantom/files/2010/01/untitled-300x180.jpg
This image is in the following blog:
http://vegblogs.co.uk/fishmantom/

What is REALLy odd, is if i look at the image alone in IE8, then the image actually loads (it redirects to a vegblogs image with the following address:
http://vegblogs.co.uk/fishmantom/files/2010/01/untitled-300x180.jpg

Hi Barry,

Thanks for the reply. The blogs are all under blogs.lancastercountryday.org (or lcds.blogs.mu). They were up for most of the day and then began failing to load again (the main page was working pretty much the entire time though).

Do you think this could be a problem with our proxy/caching server? The error we're getting is a 504 - malformed reply from server.

I'll send all of this over in an email.

Thanks again.

If you can point me to a site with the problems and let me know which issues it's having then I'll dig down and see if I can find the issue.

We have made some recent changes to improve the stability of the blogs.mu system and servers, so this may be a side-effect.

The footer is generally determined by the themes author, as such we don't have much control over it - some let you change the footer settings, others don't.

Supporters have access to an advertising block in the footer that can be used to display plain text instead of adverts if that is any use.

Hi,

We're having an issue with all of our blogs. For the past few days ONLY the main site would load, and generally with a broken header image. Today the blogs are back up, but a lot of the header images and text isn't formatting properly. What's the deal? This isn't the first time we've had this happen and it's becoming pretty obnoxious.

Also, who do I contact in regards to billing? We need to change our billing type...

Thanks!

I think you are saying you imported using their feeds?

With Blogger blogs you are able to export their blog and then set up a new blog on your site for them so they have their own blog.

Here is how it is done:

 1. Create a new blog at on your site
2. Log into your blogger blog Dashboard and go to Settings > Basic
3. Click on Export blog
4. Click on Download Blog and save onto your hard drive
5. Log into your new Campus blog
6. Click on Tools > Import
7. Click on Blogger
8. Browse to locate Download Export file from Blogger
9. Click on upload file and import

This will import all posts, comments, files. But you will need to manually set up your blog theme and widgets.

To add a new user to a blog go to Users > Add New

Alternatively you can create the blogs using Users > Blogs & Users Creator.

I see that the admin footer content I set will be in the admin area of each blog, but is there not a way to have my network name in the footer, to help brand it? It's fine to have "hosted by blogs.mu," but I thought the name of my network would be found somewhere on each and every blog.

If this can be inserted automatically, how can I do so? The footer info seems to vary from theme to theme.

Thanks in advance. :)

It says I can't do that via the dashboard, so I guess you guys in MU have to?

Also, I've ended up creating another site - in WordPress -- that I'd like to link this blog network to and have it integrated with the existing blog feature at that site in some way. Are there easy plugins or something to make such integration more efficient? I wanted to ask here before mentioning it to the programmer.

Please advise how I can change the name of my entire network and start revising the content accordingly and move ahead!

Thanks for that Barry - I will amke the changes at Godaddy.

OK, an example of one of the images is
http://seeddirect.blogs.mu/boltonvegpatch/files/2010/01/5th-jan20101-300x225.jpg

You are correct, it has "Seeddirect.blogs.mu" in it, wheras it should be "vegblogs.co.uk".

I note that the images only don't show in IE. If they are looked at in FF they are visible. I have cleared my cache in IE8 and they are still not visible.

Even spookier, if i post the URL
http://seeddirect.blogs.mu/boltonvegpatch/files/2010/01/5th-jan20101-300x225.jpg
in it own in an IE8 browser I can see the image. It is only when it is embedded in the webpage that there is a problem.

Thanks again for all the support -

Hi
You've got www as an A record. You should put www as a CNAME pointing to @ (mirror the ftp setting), that should fix the direction issue.

You can remove the blogs.mu CNAME record as that doesn't do anything.

Can you post a url of one of the images not showing. The reason could be if the URL for the image in the post had stored the old (seeddirect) domain name with it. If that is the case I can probably do a mass replace for the domain names, but ideally need to see the format / structure it's using first.

Hi Barry

I'm having real problems with my blos site site, I could really do with some help as my bloggers are leaving the sinking ship!

1. I migrated from http://www.seeddirect.blogs.mu to http://www.vegblogs.co.uk about a week ago. I thought I had everything sorted, but i've just been told by omne of the bloggers that none of the photos on the blogs work anymore - they are really upset as is very hard to upload images.

2. The site is only accessible on http://vegblogs.co.uk. Most people type in http://www.vegblogs.co.uk" but they get "page cannot be displayed".

Hi there

I have a blogs.my site (www.seeddirect.blogs.mu). I am trying to migrate to my custom domain http://www.vegblogs.co.uk

The domain is registered with Godaddy.

I have created an "A" record for it using your instructions, however when I come back to my seeddirect.blogs.mu admin area to create the custom domain changes I get the message "Domain does not resolve to this server. Please ensure that your domain name DNS has been set up correctly."

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks
Ben
SeedDirect.blogs.mu (trying to become Vegblogs.co.uk!) :-)

Hi Sue

Just a quikie - Pipes gave problems not being visible in IE and FF consistently, so read about a work around (maybe it was you who told me?)

1. Create a "Pipe" at yahoo pipes, using the individual Blog.mu blogs. This aggregates the active blogs.
2. Use yahoo pipes to create an RSS feed.
3. Open an account with Twitterfeed.com and use the RSS as the input
4. Point the twitterfeed.com account at your Twitter account (you need to set up the twitter account before you set upo the Twitterfeed.com account).
5. Create the twitter widget (widget_profile) and embed it in you web page. I have embedded it in the Vegetableseeds.net homepage and also in our Blogs homepage http://www.seeddirect.blogs.mu

Hi Sue

Yep, got pipes working. I've used it to place a feed of the conteent from our little network of blogs onto our mother site, vegetableseeds.net.

I'm still using twitter on seeddirect.blogs.mu.

With pipes the one issue I had to resolve was that once I had aggregated the "sites" (our dozen or so blogs.mu bloggers) all the content was being listed in the aggregator in clusters - all of the content from one blog, then all of the content from the next etc.. It was no filtered chornologically.

Got some advive from the Yahoo forums that by addinbg a filter which ranked the posts by publish date, was able to get the feed presenting its content chronologically.

Next issue was the title of the "badge" (equivalent to Twitter Profile Widget). You are able to customise this title, but for some reason that escape me, it only sometimes seems to save it effectively, and once you upload the bade it is very hit and miss on how it appears. I found that if i wanted to make an adjustment was easier to make a clone of the pipe and start again.

You can see the ""pipe" in the bottom part of the page, centre panel, on http://Www.vegetableseeds.net.

Thanks again for all your help

Did you work out how to use Pipes? Each time I use it I feel quite a bit of pain so let me know if you need my help.

BTW I love your new image on frontpage -- looks really good. Really like those color combinations and including your URL.

Thanks for adding me to your blogroll -- does this mean I will need to work harder in my veggie patch?

PS can't guarantee what I might blog about on my personal blog (from serious blogging, PLNs to the serious topics like chocolate and Coca Cola scandals). However, you can guarantee my other blog The Edublogger is always serious (http://theedublogger.com/) :)
